Pattaya, the 13th of November 2009 [Pattaya Daily News]: On the 13th of November 2009, at the Royal Garden Plaza on Pattaya Beach Road, the grand opening of the brand new museum at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, called “Louis Tussaud’s Wax World Pattaya” was held. The mayor of Pattaya, Mr. Itthiphol Kunpluem along with Mr. Sompon Narkseutrong, the manager of Ripley’s World of Entertainment Pattaya Ltd, opened the ceremony. Many celebrities and reporters attended the function.

This museum is the 5th of its kind in the world and the 1st one of its kind in Southeast Asia. The museum showcases 68 realistic wax models of both Thai and Internationally renowned personalities, (some are still living whilst some are dead). The wax models are made to the finest of details including body size and the clothing that people most associate the personality with. The museum is divided into 9 zones and the owners spent over 100 million Baht before the Grand Opening.

The main attraction at present is the model of current President of the United States, Mr. Barack Obama, with a sign captioning the model stating “President Obama visits Thailand”, a variety of presidential bodyguards are in tow.

Ripley’s has previously received some unwanted publicity after a billboard used to promote the event displayed the message, “Hitler is not dead yet” (referring to the lifelike wax model). The billboard was taken down after the Israeli Ambassador to Thailand complained that the statement supported the atrocities committed on the Jewish people during World War II, where approximately 6,000,000 Jews lost their lives. It must be noted that there is also a feature within the museum on the Second World War and as such Hitler was always going to be a feature.
