Tuesday 3rd November 2009: – The cool night was not exactly tropical, but this did not stop the huge crowd of well wishers arriving early, along with a record turnout of press & TV reporters. The press corps was very busy for one hour due to the large amount of very high ranking officials, who attended what was the biggest business event to be seen this year in Pattaya.

The most important dignitaries included Khun Suthikiati Chirathivat, who is the chairman of the executive board of Central Plaza Hotel group; Pattaya City Mayor Khun Itthipol Khunplome; the Governor of Chonburi Khun Seni Jittkasem, and most importantly the VIP guest Khun Chumphon Sinlaprarcha, who is the National Minister of Tourism and Sports. All the leading officials present took part in the grand opening of the “Centara Grand Mirage,” on stage, in front of an awestruck crowd of onlookers.

Entertainment for the night started with music by the “Aborigine Band”, as well as a stunning performance by veteran American stage singer Roberta Flack, who has been an icon of solo female stage performers globally for many decades. She sung all of the “Golden Oldies” in a marathon singing performance of well over one hour with a powerful presentation that would have absolutely exhausted younger vocalists.

Located on “Wong Amat Beach” in North Pattaya, the newly constructed 5-star resort hotel was designed with a “Lost World” concept in mind, featuring an outdoor jungle setting and water park as well as many other similarly themed attractions through the vast expanse of prime land that the hotel occupies. It may not quite be the biggest, as far as the number of rooms are concerned, but “Centara Grand Mirage” executives believe that it is the best in terms of quality and what it has to offer its clients.

The hotel is designed as a twin 18-story tower complex connected by various sky bridges, and it has a total of 555 rooms and suites, all of which have balconies and offer some unique ocean views. Guests have direct access to the beach front consisting of a 230-meter stretch of gently sloping fine sand. There is an extensive range of beach and water sport activities available, including swimming, snorkeling, windsurfing, kayaking, boating and fishing, just to mention a few.

So what did the hundreds of party going guest think of the festivities? – The “Centara Grand Mirage” opening party “blew their minds” with its sheer size, precise organization and attention to even the smallest details. Buffet style food was very freshly prepared, with an incredible variety ranging from fresh seafood, roast beef, pasta dishes, delicious desserts and every type of ice-cream imaginable.

The guests were “well heeled” clients of mainly Thai, American, European, Russian & Asian origins, who knew what quality meant when it came to superior accommodation. One of the highlights was the drawing of a major travel prize that consisted of a 1-week all expenses paid holiday trip to the Maldives, in the Indian Ocean. The lucky winner was M/s Linda from Louisiana, USA, and she was overjoyed, because it was her first ever trip to Thailand
