TCC deputy secretary-general Pornsilp Patcharintanakul said the Food Industry Club, the chamber’s grouping of industries processing and exporting food products, projected that Thailand’s food exports this year would experience fall by at least 5 per cent or Bt 750 billion.

Thailand’s overall exports will also contract this year.

In the next six months, he suggested, the government more quickly conduct overseas road shows to boost trade and investment, and locate new markets to replace export markets that have closed or contracted.

At the same time, the government must supervise the currency exchange rate to ensure its movement neither differs much from other currencies of neighbours nor fluctuates too much.

He said that global oil prices must be closely monitored because there is a sign of a continued price increase.

In addition, the government must develop a measure to support guarantee against farm product loss risks to help maintain prices of farm products, he added. (TNA)
