Sri Racha, 11th February 2011[Pattaya Daily News] Pol.Gen.l Vithiya Sriprasertpap, Nongkaam Police, Sirracha, announced his concerns for the gold trading businesses in the area, as the police stations of surrounding areas have noticed an increase in gold theft. Thieves are most likely to steal gold from one area and sell it in another. If any of the gold business were unknowingly to distribute such stolen gold they could experience legal complications themselves.

Pol. Lt. Krishamongut Buraphakdi, of Nongkaam police, assigned mobile police patrols to oversee gold shops in the area of Nongkaam and the area of Khao Khan Song with a view to preventing gold theft. The motorbike police patrols will be increased to watch closely over the gold shops. The gold shop owners have also been made responsible for observing strangers in their shops and monitoring their customers carefully.

The criminals could be anyone who seems to be interested in gold or who is acting as if they were buying something from the store. They could also want to sell gold. It should be kept in mind that the gold could be stolen and the purchaser could find themselves in possession of stolen property and that if sold on could be charged with handling stolen property – with all its legal consequences. If suspicious for any reason. The police should be notified under Tel. No.191 and a nearby police officer will attend immediately.

The police have also asked for the cooperation of all the gold business owners to check the performance of their CCTVs, as these are able to provide very important and helpful evidence, recording everyone who walked in and out of the store. If the cameras are switched on from opening time until closing time and a suspect attempting to steal gold or to sell stolen gold, the police will be able to track them down immediately.
