On 10 December 2007, at 9:20pm, Pattaya Investigator, Police Lieutenant Sawai Ong-art, was notified that a foreign man was found dead in room number D5, above a shop house, located at 111/254-4, Moo 9, near Marine Place, Soi Bua-Khao. A police team, along with Sawang Boriboon Rescue, rushed to the scene to investigate.

The location was an attached, five story shop house. On the ground floor was Star Night Karaoke Bar; the upstairs floors had rooms for tent. Officials went to room D5, on the fifth floor and discovered the body of Mr. Jacopsson Karl Edvard (77), a Swedish national, on the bathroom floor. He was only wearing blue underwear. Dentures and a wristwatch were next to his body. Officials examined the body and found no sign of foul play. The only visible injury was to the back of his head, which was covered with blood. Officials assume that Mr. Edvard fell and hit his head on the floor. They believe he had been dead for less than two days when he was found.

There was no evidence that the room had been entered or robbed. Some medicine, from a private hospital, was seen on a table. Photos of Mr. Edvard, a world famous Go kart racer were also in the room. He had been a champion since he was young, both in Thailand and abroad. Last November, he won a Thailand championship for older racers, in Saraburi Province; and had been planning for many more races.

Mr. Peter, his close friend, confirmed that Mr. Edvard was, indeed, a world famous Go kart racer. He had raced all over the world for many years; and was a champion racer. In the senior category, he won almost every contest that he entered. Mr. Edvard’s accomplishments were recorded in the Guinness Book of Records. His latest triumph was winning the championship of the THAILAND GRAND PRIX AKOC 2007, held on 3-4 November 2007, at S.C. Motorsport Racing Ground in Saraburi Province.

Mr. Peter said that he had not seen Mr. Edvard for several days when he had learned that his friend had died. They regularly went to the fitness center together. Mr. Edvard had become ill about five days before and had gone to the hospital. When he was released from the hospital, he returned to his room, but had no one to take care of him. Mr. Peter tried to call Mr. Edvard many times, but got no answer. He, eventually, went to his room to check on him and noticed a foul odor coming from the room. Mr. Peter requested the owner of the apartment to open the door and found Mr. Edvard’s deceased body.

Officials theorized that Mr. Edvard went into the bathroom and fainted. In all probability, he fell over and hit his head on the floor, causing the fatal injury. They believe he had been dead for less than two days before being discovered. The exact cause of death will be determined by a forensic laboratory examination.
