Satellite transmission technology “came of age” in 1994, when Digital Broadcasting Systems (DBS) gave millions of consumers the ability to view hundreds of digital quality TV channels, via a simple satellite receiving dish. Now, a new wave of satellite broadcasting transmission to consumers has arrived, which is the brainchild of an American banker and media entertainment expert, Mr. Ronald Flynn. He came to Thailand to start the large motion picture company of “Pacific Motion Picture,” and along the way he also started a chain of “Atlantis” hair dressing salons, “Paradise” beauty products and massage centers, “Pacific Beach Real Estate” property brokers, the Hotel California, and the “Golden Media” company, all under the umbrella of a parent company named the “Rainbow Corporation Joint Venture.” With his lifelong experience in the motion picture, TV, music and other forms of entertainment, Ron began searching for a suitable business partner in Thailand, finally settling on the big music and media “UPL Group.” This gave Ron Flynn access to the local media industry, (including 10 TV channels), as the UPL Chairman, Khun Navin Hemaruchatanan, is the proprietor of UPTV, and CEO of Satellite Media One Corporation, as well as being the founder of the Thai Movie Industry Association.

New Media Advertising Is Born
It was through this new business partnership, that Ron Flynn first heard about an amazing technological breakthrough, which goes back to a Hong Kong electronics and computer science expert, Mr. Tung Ho Ming, (otherwise known as “Steven”). This electronic genius invented new technology to continually transmit high quality digital data to “stand alone” TV screens, using various satellite broadcasting networks. Steven’s friend used this system initially to sell one of his products in China; by placing “flat screen” TV’s at strategic locations (mainly in city areas), where they could be viewed by a large number of potential purchasers, and the public at large. This was hugely successful, resulting in more advertisers coming using this new advertising system, and it resulted in the formation of a company named “Focus Media Public Company.” By selling around 35,000 screens in only 45 cities in China the company went in just a few years, from nothing to having a share asset value listed at $2.38 billion US, by NASDAQ,

In a period of around one year, nearly all of the world’s major companies, who do business in China, have come on board to use this unique new method of advertising, which has resulted in the share capital of this company being currently worth $2.38 billion US. The company then offered “Steven” $10 million US (then later $50 million US), to purchase the “Patents” and technology, plus his proprietary knowledge behind this unique system, but he considered this to be a very inadequate offer, in view of the huge profits that they were generating.

Ronald Flynn, – An Entrepreneur With Vision
As luck would have it, “Steven” became acquainted with Ron Flynn through the UPL Group, and Ron showed an immediate interest, as he envisaged a much broader usage on a world-wide scale, for such a sophisticated technological data transmission system. With his knowledge of international banking, and capitalizing global projects within the entertainment, and service industries, (plus many others), Ron was quick to see the potential of forming a global company. What followed was a reverse merger, which saw “James” the inventor merge his “Patents” and the associated technology into a new company of “Global Satellite Broadcasting Corporation” This new conglomerate is made up of Ron Flynn’s “Rainbow Company” organization, and the UPL Group” company jointly having around 56% share holding, plus “James” (Tung Ho Ming), as a 20% equity partner. This was indeed a far better arrangement than the “buy out” price offered to him for his patents by “Focus Media,” and furthermore, Ron Hall registered all of the above mentioned business names, as world-wide “Trademark” and on-line “Domain names.”

As CEO, Ron Flynn has tied up the rights to the new technology, and to the monitors known as “Smart Screen,” (which are used by most “Fortune 500” companies), in every country on the planet, and also in every language. This is a huge coup, for Ron, who is a seasoned entrepreneur, with many years of experience behind him, and he knows that his GSBC Company is headed to be a real winner. He perceives the need to move quickly on a global scale, and has issued 10% of the shares as a public float, which already has seen investors with their cheque books “at the ready,” plus a huge range of advertisers queuing up to get “on-line” for some successful advertising. After the huge success of the “Focus Media” company in just China alone, it is easy to see that success will follow automatically on a giant world-wide scale, as the benefits and associated profits, have already been proven. In China, 30-second advertising slots were readily sold for 10 cents each, per each individual display screen, and over a 10-hour day, a profit of $120 US is generated. Bangkok and other major cities could easily see the placement of 2,000 “Smart Screens” per city, and when installed in 100 cities, the revenue would amount to $480 million US per month. In western countries this is expected to be more, as the advertising rates would be more like 20 – 50 cents per slot. However, the clients are still getting good value for money, as their only major cost is for the production of their promotional video, which is generally around $3,000 – 4,000 US. Even if they wish to purchase their own “Smart Screen” complete with the SMS upgrade, the all up cost is only $800 US, which is not excessive.

An Eye To The Future
Ron Flynn has not simply been content with his initial achievements, and has come up with some huge improvements being made to the over-all operating system. No longer is it necessary to add additional programs or advertisers by plugging a new memory chip into each individual screen. Now any new advertisement or program can be instantly sent to any number of “Smart Screens,” using the SMS messages system via mobile phone technology; – Yes, its now that simple! With at least 10 TV channels at his disposal, Ron envisages running specific subject material on individual stations, as a world-wide network system in almost every language; – (In other words, – there are going to be some big changes to the way things are done).

It is reasonably certain that the original operators of the system in China, will most likely have to merge, or reach some sort of agreement with the Global Satellite Broadcasting Group, as their original “Focus Media” name is now held by Ron Flynn’s GSBC company group. “Focus Media” are acknowledged as the 2nd largest advertising company in the world, an are predicted to be twenty times bigger than their nearest competitor by 2007. Every major financial newspaper is publishing articles about the new Global Satellite Broadcasting Corporation, as everyone knows, that this is a company, which is worth watching. But with all of this activity, will all of Ron Flynn’s other companies be put on “the back-burner?”- No, says Ron, they will all proceed as planned, especially his “Pacific Motion Picture” division, for which he also has big plans.

Ronald is a very friendly 42-year-old American guy, who does not drink or smoke, enjoys life, and does not let problems overtake him. Moulding the collective personalities and beliefs of his people, so that they can better understand the goals and demands of the consumers is one of his major aims. He predicts that even though the company will diversify, it will not lose sight of its core objectives in media entertainment, such as Motion Picture Management, Audio Production, IT Technologies, and Telephony Applications. Ron Flynn confided in us that never in his wildest dreams did he ever envisage starting a huge world-wide corporation, based in Thailand. He always considered that America was the only country on the planet, where such a giant project could come to fruition. This shows us that the world is changing, and that dynamic Asia could outstrip its Western rivals in many areas of business.

We finished this very interesting interview by asking Ronald Flynn if he was going to become another Bill Gates, and he jokingly quipped, – “Well I have not heard of him, but the name sounds familiar.” It is our guess that if things go according to his plans, Ron Flynn will indeed be somewhere near the top of the tree, within a few years.
