GISTDA Cooperate With Italy To Develop Satellite

GISTDA and the Italy embassy of Thailand have cooperated together to develop satellites in Thailand. They held an exhibition for presenting the new space technology which would be used to develop the economy.

Asst.Prof.Weerapong Paesuwan-deputy director of MOST (Ministry of Science and Technology, Thailand), H.E. Francesco Saverio Nisio-ambassador of Italy- had chaired the opening ceremony of “Italian Space Activities : COSMO-Sky Med a dual system for International Cooperation” among Thailand space organization, industrial section and representatives from institutions of Space Krenovative Park (SKP), Sri Racha (district nearby Pattaya), Chonburi.




The Italy embassy of Thailand had cooperated with GISTDA (Geo-informatics and space technology development agency (public organization)) and (Ministry of Science and Technology, Thailand) and private sectors from Italy which consisted of e-GEOS, Thales Alenia Space and Telespazio to present and exchange new space innovation in Italy. In addition Agenzia Spaziale Italiana ( ASI ) had presented COSMO-Sky Med satellite project. Their aim is to collaborate between each organization to develop space technology for attendees. Also GISTDA had presented using COSMO-Sky Med satellites in Thaland.

Asst.Prof.Weerapong revealed that they had exchanged ideas about space technology with Italy which was a great experience and they could now study and understand how to develop satellites. Nowadays they use COSMO-Sky Med satellite for military and country developments. Also COSMO-Sky Med could capture any objects even if the object was covered. They used COSMO-Sky Med to search for an oil leak which leaked into the sea off the coast of Rayong earlier this year. In addition the satellite was also used to identify land in Bangkok that had sunk 3-4cm in 1 year. Space Krenovation Park :SKP was the first space technology centre in Thailand. They were in charge of developing and creating innovations to develop the economy in Thailand and ASEAN.
