BANGKOK – September 9, 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: A teenage girl’s hair got caught on an escalator railing near the movie complex of the Future Park Rangsit shopping center in Bangkok.

The accident occurred while the girl was riding the escalator from the second floor to the third. She was bending her head down to see the show below, when the escalator rail caught her hair and yanked it in.

A security guard came to shut the escalator down and help the girl, but she had already fallen unconscious. The security guard later coordinated with the rescue team from Rangsit Municipality to help, and sent her to Patumwech Hospital.

The girl was identified as Nuanprae Wasupichaikul, age 12. Her mother, Mrs. Wichittra Wasutpichaikul, said that she had brought her daughter to the shopping center for a special weekend class.

But when they arrived in her car, she could not find a parking space, so she dropped off her daughter first. When she later parked her car, Mr. Wichittra went into the center and then saw her unconscious daughter lying by the escalator, and went into shock.

The shopping center management sent staff members to accommodate the injured girl and are paying the medical costs to the hospital.

The medical team pumped her heart, but said her condition is still critical. Because her breathing had temporarily stopped, blood clotting had formed in her brain. She was being closely monitored by doctors. Mrs.Wichittra later sent her daughter for further treatment at Bangkok Hospital on Petchburi Tadmai Road.
