Pattaya, the 3rd of December 2009 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 6:30pm Police Captain Pratiphat Phoomali (investigator with the Dongtan Branch of the Pattaya Police) received a report that two foreigners had been involved in an argument which resulted in one man stabbing the other several times, killing him at the rear entrance to the “Kanya Romantic Garden Restaurant” located on Soi Chayapruk 1 near Jomtien Beach.

A team of police and police volunteers attended the scene within minutes of receiving the report. Officers arrived at the scene (a 2-storey townhouse in operation as an internet café and restaurant with rental accommodation available on the 2nd level), where they were confronted by the motionless body of a foreigner lying at the rear entrance to the establishment.

Investigations revealed that the foreigner was a Mr. Peter Alfons Schroth [48], a German national. A medical team from the Banglamung Hospital declared that Mr Schroth had died due to the severe stab wounds that he had received and the resultant massive blood loss. He had 3 stab wounds to the chest (one that appeared to have hit his heart), 3 to his back and 1 stab wound on his armpit. Police investigators compiled a report on the evidence before the body was taken away for autopsy by the Sawang Boriboon Foundation.

Investigators found that there had been signs of a struggle inside the first floor of the building (internet café) as there were several broken items lying on the ground. Upon further examination police discovered a black handled kitchen knife next to one of the computer desks inside the building and another one stained with blood laying on the opposite side of the road to the establishment. The evidence was bagged and taken away by police.

Police interviewed Mrs Sukanya Schroth [48] the wife of the deceased, who explained that the pair had been happily married for the last 20 years and that both of them knew and were friends with the murderer. She also stated that her and her husband were partners in the “Kanya Romantic Garden Restaurant,” which included an internet café and rental accommodation.

In relation to the murder, Mrs Schroth explained that her husband had been sitting at a computer overlooking the outside restaurant and beer bar with his back to the front door of the building. She stated to officers that the murderer Mr Timo Bloch [30] from Germany (who was a friend of Mr Schroth), entered the café through the front door proceeding to walk over and hit Mr Schroth before he seized a knife stabbing him several times. Mr Bloch then exited the building running across the road where he jumped onto his blue Honda Wave motorcycle and headed in the direction of Sukhumvit Road.

Following investigations at the scene police decided to distribute a portrait of Mr Bloch to the numerous police stations in the Pattaya area. At around 11:30pm police Lieutenant Colonel Chanaphat Nualak received a call from a Mr. Manop Ramruay (a police volunteer), who explained that he has sighted a foreign man who fits the description of the murderer, walking around the Chaopraya Resort in Soi 17 off Thepprasit Road.

Officers arrived at the location within minutes confronting the foreigner who looked similar to the portrait that was provided to police. The police requested that the witnesses come down to the Chaopraya Resort to identify the suspect, which they promptly did. Mr Bloch was searched by officers who discovered 1 pill of the class-1 drug Yabba hidden in a black bag that he had tried to conceal behind a pergola. He was arrested and taken to the police station where he will undergo interrogation in relation to his crimes.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Chanaphat Nualak declared that he was unable to interrogate Mr Bloch at the present time as he was severely under the influence of drugs and was making very little sense. He informed the family and friends of Mr Schroth that they would begin questioning in the morning when the drug should have worn off.

At 11:00am on the 4th of December, police Lieutenant Colonel Suchart Suthaworn along with Captain Pratiphat Phoomali interrogated Mr. Bloch in regards to the murder. Mr. Bloch informed police that he had killed Mr Schroth because he had refused to pay him money for the construction of a website that he had built for him. He further mentioned that he had been asking for payment for his services for over 3 months, so that he could afford to go to Koh Larn on the 5th of December for a holiday. Mr Schroth had forbidden him to go and insulted him, refusing to pay him the money that was owed to him. It is at this point that Mr Bloch explained that he became angry and couldn’t take the embarrassment anymore subsequently stabbing Mr Schroth in a drug induced rage.

After the interrogation, police officers took Mr Bloch to the scene of the murder in order to complete a re-enactment of the previous night’s events. After explaining to police how and where the fight, stabbing and escape occurred, Mr Bloch got down on his hands and knees apologising to Mrs Schroth. Mrs Schroth proceeded to stamp on Mr Bloch’s head before police rushed him back to the car, where he was promptly driven back to the station to await further judicial proceedings to commence.
