German and Thai GF Killed In Motorbike Collision

A 33-year-old German man and his 27-year-old female Thai passenger died instantly when their speeding motorbike collided violently with a parked van on second Pattaya road in front of the Hard Rock hotel. The van driver said he had been waiting to pick up some tourists when the early morning collision occurred.

PATTAYA – October 18, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 6:30 a.m., a report of a motorbike colliding with a parked van that killed two people was received by Pol. Lt. Col. Nattawat Srithongpech, investigation officer, Pattaya police station, Chonburi province. He rushed to inspect the scene with the rescue officer of Sawangboribul Pattaya foundation.

The incident occurred at second Pattaya road near the Hard Rock hotel, central Pattaya, Moo 9 Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

At the scene, police found the lifeless bodies of a foreign man and a Thai woman lying on the road. Both had broken skulls and fractured arms and legs. The victims were identified as Mr. Kai Ivangean, age 33, nationality German; and Ms. Juthathip Imsathien, age 27, nationality Thai, from Nakornratchasima province.

The couple’s severely damaged motorbike was a blue Suzuki Hiyate, license number JOR TOR YOR 327 Chonburi. The motorbike had collided with a parked Toyota van, bronze color, license number HOR KHOR 623 Bangkok. The left rear of the van was severely damaged from the violent collision with the motorcycle, and the van’s tailight was shattered.

Police questioned the van’s driver, Mr. Thanya Kledprathum, age 38. He told police that he and his older brother had traveled from Bangkok to pick up some tourists. Mr. Thanya had parked his van on the side of the road to wait for the tourists.

Suddenly there was the loud noise at the back of the van, so he and his startled brother went to have a look. They discovered the motorbike had collided with his van and two people were lying dead on the ground.

After investigating and inspecting the accident scene in detail, the police took photographs and made notes for evidence. They then restrained the van driver Mr. Thanya to be investigated further according to procedures regarding fatal accidents.
