Gasoline and gasohol prices now lower than diesel‘s

The price gap between gasoline, gasohol and diesel in Thailand is now closed, thanks to Monday‘s decision of all local oil traders on a further cut in their retail gasoline and gasohol prices by 0.40 baht per litre, while keeping the retail diesel price unchanged.

This results in the prices of regular and gasohol now standing below the diesel price for the first time, while the price of premium gasoline is only 0.05 baht per litre above that of diesel.

From 05:00 hours on Tuesday (September 12), the retail prices of premium and regular gasoline, as well as gasohol stay at 26.79 baht, 25.99 baht, and 25.29 baht per liter respectively in Greater Bangkok. The diesel price remains unchanged at 26.74 baht per liter.

Altogether, gasoline prices have dropped by 3.40 baht per liter in three weeks.

Manoon Siriwan, Senior Executive Vice President of Bangchak Petroleum Public Company Limited (Bangchak), a Thai leading energy firm, projected that the global prices of gasoline would further decline since the high tourism season is ending, while members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), resolved at a meeting on Monday to maintain the cartel‘s production capacity at 28 million barrel per day.

As well, the refined oil reserve in the United States remains high, while Iran has softened its stance by agreeing to negotiate on a nuclear dispute with the United Nations.

He said Bangchak would take a few days to monitor global crude oil prices before deciding whether the diesel price should be cut or not.
