He boarded a Thai Airways flight to Hong Kong after a 20-hour stand-off at Bangkok airport during which he feigned ear and heart problems.

And he goaded hapless British and Thai police as he twice refused to take planes to London.

“We reached a stalemate where the Thai authorities eventually said he had to leave. “As we couldn’t legally force him to return to Britain he finally agreed to Hong Kong. As he left us he grinned and sang the old Rolling Stones line ‘I’m free to do what I want, any old time’.”

The Glitter Band star, travelling under his real name Paul Gadd, beamed with delight as he boarded the Jumbo jet flight to Hong Kong – and took a seat in Business Class. He immediately collared the crew and tried to organise a VIP touchdown.

After getting instructions on using the on-board phone, he called a friend in Hong Kong and asked him to book accommodation in Wanchai, the city’s nightclub area.

Glitter grinned as he was fast-tracked through the “diplomats and airline staff” lane at Hong Kong immigration. But when he arrived, he was told he could not stay. Immigration cops said local privacy laws meant they could not comment on Glitter’s case. But a source revealed: “He will be sent back to Bangkok on a morning flight.”
