Gardening Basics: Designing Your Plants

Window box design

Refurbish a boring windowsill with a mixture of flowering and foliage plants.

Materials:

A window box
Broken pot remains for drainage
Multi-purpose fertilizer
A selection of plants

Choose dependable, permanent and yearly flowers, for a bright, year-round display.

To do List:

1. Measure your window before buying a window box, to make sure that it will fit. Wrap the drainage holes in box with layer of broken pot remains or a polystyrene packaging.

2. Using fertilizer, fill the container to the bottom of your largest pot.

3. Staying still in their pots, arrange the flowers. When you’re pleased with the way they are combined, take them off and plant.

4. Fill in the gaps with fertilizers and dense down.

5. Finish the process by watering the plants.

To do List:

1. Plant up pots to an outstanding year-round display. You can grow a mixture of showy shrubs and flowering perennials or each on the pot.

2. Decide on your planting blend. Shrubs such as cordyline with annuals that will be able to changed seasonally is a lovely way of toting up a structure and color.

3. Using bits of broken pot, make a layer inside the container to cover the drainage hole.

4. Fill in to the level of the bottom of your largest pot using a fertilizer.

5. Arrange the plants in the container.

6. If you are happy and satisfied with the arrangements and combinations, plant and fill in the gaps with compost (fertilizer), then firm in and finish it by watering well.
