On 11 January 2008, at 2am, Police Captain Wittaya Yeunyong, an Inspector, was notified that a man had been brutally attacked by a gang of teenagers and had been seriously injured. A police team, along with Sawang Boriboon Rescue, rushed to the scene, where the victim was lying in a pool of his own blood in front of the Seven Eleven Store, on Soi 17, behind Wat Chaimongkol, Moo 10, South Pattaya

Mr. Chatchai Plee-gloay (25), address 330/1 Moo 10, had sustained stab wounds, caused by a long bladed knife, on the left side of his waist and to his chest. His left wrist was sliced so deeply that his hand was nearly amputated. The victim was immediately rushed to Banglamung Hospital, who sent him on to Chonburi Hospital for emergency surgery. At the time of this writing, Mr. Chatchai was still in a coma.

According to witnesses, Mr. Chatchai was running from a gang of ten men, who were chasing him with a long, pointy knife, in the style of a Japanese Samurai sword. They were chasing the victim along Soi Yensabai. After savagely attacking the victim, the gang ran back into the soi.

Police cordoned off the entire area, blocking all entrances and exits. When they came upon Nice Boy A-Go-Go, in Soi Sunee, a well-known area containing many gay venues, they noticed that the bar was closed and had been damaged. It was evident that a battle had taken place in front of the bar, as there were many bloodstains. Mr. Chatchai’s purple Yamaha motorbike, license 270, Chonburi was parked in the area, as well as, a blue Honda with an attached side car and two additional motorbikes that belonged to the attackers. Police confiscated all of the vehicles as evidence.

After searching the cordoned off area, police managed to apprehend nine of the perpetrators. They all lived in the area. They also retrieved a bloodstained, one meter long knife. Most of the apprehended gang members were teenagers (15-18 years old) who worked in gay venues in the area. On the night of the attack, Mr. Chatchai was drinking with his friends in front of Nice Boy A-Go-Go, when Mr. Alex (15) arrived on a motorbike to see his friends who worked in the bar. Apparently, Mr. Alex gave Mr. Chatchai some kind of look which upset him.

Mr. Chatchai asked Mr. Alex, “What are you looking at? Are you looking for a problem?”

Mr. Alex didn’t respond, but rushed to see his friend, Mr. Nat, who was a DJ at Sundance Bar and was known to be the leader of the gang on the soi. Mr. Nat gathered up his friends from his bar and assembled them near the motorbike with the side car and a few other motorbikes and rushed to Nice Boy A-Go-Go, where Mr. Chatchai was drinking. Mr. Nat ran straight at Mr. Chatchai with his knife and savagely attacked him. Mr. Chatchai tried to defend himself but was no match for the ten men who were attacking him. However, he managed to run from the soi and collapsed in front of the Seven Eleven shop. Police have mounted a vigorous manhunt for Mr. Nat, the gang’s leader.
