Pattaya, 29 October 2010, [Pattaya Daily News]: A nursing mother, Mrs. Sarisa Peeronun [25] from Bang Saray, out shopping for nappies in Carrefour Department Store, Central Pattaya, on Thursday afternoon, was somehow ‘mesmerized’ by a women in a lift and subsequently led to a table in Fuji Japanese Restaurant, where two accomplices were sitting in wait. They then persuaded the victim to part with the equivalent of Bt300,000, including  gold and diamond jewellery, B4,000 cash as well as  Bt200,000 from an ATM.

The mesmerizing incident happened at 2pm, when Mrs. Sarisa stepped into a lift going to the 2nd floor at Carrefour. Waiting in the lift was a woman who said “my bag’s been stolen,” and asked Mrs. Sarisa if she’d seen it, while simultaneously touching her on the arm. The method of intoxication used on Mrs. Sarisa is unclear, whether drugs or hypnotism, testing is currently in process, but she relates she began to lose consciousness.

In this semi-conscious state Mrs. Sarisa was led to a table in Fuji Japanese Restaurant, where there were two others waiting. As soon as she sat down, the duo began demanding her valuables, starting with a 2 baht gold necklace, 2 diamond rings and Bt4,000 in cash. They then forced her to tell them the ATM password to her bank account containing Bt 1 million, stole her ATM card and took out the daily limit of Bt200,000, subsequently abandoning her in a semi-conscious state, where she collapsed on the table.

An alert restaurant staff member noticing Mrs. Peeronun’s strange state, approached her and discovered her predicament. Checking her bag, Mrs. Peeronun only found her mobile phone, everything else had been stolen. The staff member notified the Pattaya Police Radio Centre at 3.30pm and an investigative team appeared soon after, where they found a tearful Mrs. Peeronun sitting, psychologically traumatised. She related her sorry tale to them and later and notified her husband of her experience.

Police now have a identifiable profile of the 3 gang members, and an active investigation has started into apprehend them.
