Gambler Fakes Kidnapping To Pay Debt

A 28-year-old man faked his kidnapping to repay a gambling debt. His worried mother then paid a 100,000 THB ransom. However, police became suspicious after not finding any evidence of a kidnapper. Eventually the man confessed that he faked his kidnapping to force his family to help him pay the debt.

UDORN THANI – August 27, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]: A kidnapping and demand for ransom was reported to the police of muang Udorn Thanee station by Mr. Rattapol Sodawat, age 21.

Mr. Rattapol told police that on August 26, he had been trying to locate his missing friend Mr. Chalong Pisaisuk, age 28. Then late at night, he received a call from a kidnapper, who said that he was holding Mr. Chalong and wanted a 100,000 baht ransom.

Mr. Rattapol contacted the victim’s mother, Mrs. Pranee Pisaisuk. She then brought 100,000 baht to pay the kidnapper at noon the next day at Nongprajak public park.

Meanhile, the police were deployed at the park to ambush and catch the criminal. But they did not find anything suspicious. Instead, Mr. Chalong emerged from the spot that he was kidnapped. When the police questioned Mr. Chalong, he told them he was recently released.

Police became suspicious during their questioning, when Mr. Chalong talked suspiciously, and gave evasive answers. Finally, Mr. Chalong confessed that he made the whole kidnapping story up, because he need the money to pay for an online gambling blackjack baccarat debt.

He said he was being threatened every day by the people whom he owed the money. Previously Mr. Chalong had brought his car to pawn to repay the debt, but the money still wasn’t enough. So he had to lie to force his family and friends to find money to help him, because he had no choice.
