Fulham v Blackburn Rovers (3-0)

Fulham, often over shadowed by London rivals Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham are once again showing that they are perennial contenders for a top 10 spot in the league. Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce was still in hospital for the match, recovering from a heart operation. Stand-in manager Neil McDonald took the reigns in an otherwise forgettable fixture.

An opener from Erik Nevland and a brace by Clint Dempsey were enough to see off Rovers in a match that Roy Hodgson’s side initially struggled to get to grips with, letting Blackburn dominate for long periods in the first 45. Hodgson eventually settled his men, at which time they went on to win with relative ease. The 3 points pushes Fulham into 10th spot on the table whilst Blackburn slip back into 12th.

Hull City v Everton (3-2)

Everton produced possibly their most inept display of the season in this mid-week match, while surprisingly fielding what looked to be their best XI of the year.

First-half goals from Stephen Hunt, Andy Dawson and Dean Marney saw Hull enter the interval 3 goals up, as Hunt and Jozy Altidore ran the visiting defence ragged. Hull City’s Kamil Zayatte tried his best to spoil the party for his teammates by scoring a spectacular own goal, and conceding the penalty that Louis Saha appreciating converted to bring the match to a nail biting 3-2 score line. Hull hung on in the end, pulling level on the table with Everton on 15 points, although Hull still have a significantly worse goal difference.
