United Kingdom, the 30th of July 2010: Former Wales, Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City manager, Mark Hughes, has been appointed as the new coach of Fulham this week. Inside reports suggest that club chairman Al Fayed moved for Hughes following a failure to sign Dutchman Martin Jol from Ajax.

“I would like to welcome Mark Hughes to Fulham. I know that he understands my vision for the club, and believes in what we want achieve,” exclaimed Chairman Al Fayed. “We have enjoyed two incredibly successful years, and my hopes and dreams for this club are for that journey to continue. I am confident that with his Premier League and national team successes, Mark will be a great guy for the job.”

Hughes, in his first appointment since being sacked by Manchester City in December 2009 revealed, “I am happy to have joined Fulham following much speculation regarding the appointment of a new manager. I am confident that with some additions to the squad, hard work and commitment, we can move this club forward in the right direction.”

Meanwhile, Roy Hodgson, who recently left Fulham to take the reigns at perennial premiership contenders Liverpool, has enjoyed a winning start to his time on Merseyside. Liverpool defeated lowly Macedonian outfit Rabotnicki 2-0 in their Europa League first-leg qualifying match in Skopje.

In somewhat of a makeshift Liverpool side with a touch of youth, David N’Gog, Daniel Agger, Sotirios Kyrgiakos, Alberto Aquilani, Lucas and new signing Milan Jovanovic did well for the visitors. Liverpool were rarely tested by their opponents and duly deserved their competent two-goal victory.
