Police have arrested a Myanmar national, Shwe Oo Dam, and are looking for his cousin, Maung Myo, believed to be his accomplice in the murder, which took place when the two burgled Mr Boigeol’s bungalow at the Moragot Resort in Rawai.

Mr Francelet, whose portfolio includes police relations, met with Provincial Police Commander Pol Maj Gen Ong’art Piewruangnon and presented him and other officers with medals from the French government.

Mr Francelet also asked the police about how they tracked down Shwe. Gen Ong’art outlined the case and the evidence, and said that it showed this was a simple, if brutal, case of robbery. He added that police are now concentrating on catching Maung.

Mr Francelet stressed that no one was blaming Phuket, a famous tourist attraction that many French people like to visit. Robbery, he pointed out can occur in any country, including France.

While in the meeting, he also passed on a message from French Ambassador Pierre Blondel, assuring the Phuket police that the French government will be keeping a closer eye on “people who come to Thailand holding French nationality but acting like mafia”. He noted that such people tend to settle particularly in Phuket and Pattaya.
