France, the 6th of September 2010: Frenchman Jean-Claude Chamoux was arrested in the Thai resort of Pattaya in 2005 following police investigations into an underage prostitution operation. During the bust, Chamoux was found in the company of an eight-year-old girl who he had just procured for an amount of 20 Euros (Bt800).

Detained in remand following his arrest, Chamoux was inexplicably granted bail by a Thai court, which allowed him to flee the Kingdom. He was later arrested in 2006 in France on other child abuse charges.

In addition to the assault of at least 10 Thai children, Chamoux is being tried on charges that he sexually abused two French girls aged just three and four-years-old. Thai charges are being held in the Paris court after parents of the victims decided to undertake legal proceedings against Chamoux in France.

Chamoux has since admitted his guilt over several of the offences, however in an attempt to mitigate his case he stated that he never had the impression that the girls did not want to comply with his wishes.

Following the arrest of Chamoux in Pattaya, extensive investigations into a ring of paedophiles operating in the popular tourist resort resulted in several busts, namely that of Thai agents operating the illegal prostitution services.

One Thai woman Miss Somjai or Mam Prombut was arrested in 2009, almost 4 years after Chamoux’s arrest. Miss Somjai is accused of being the main agent in an illegal underage prostitution ring largely servicing foreign clientele.

Despite denying all allegations, Miss Somjai was linked with numerous dealings involving Chamoux and several other foreign tourists believed to have been visiting Pattaya with the specific intent of engaging in sexual acts with underage girls.

A verdict is expected to be handed down in Chamoux’s case on the 10th of September 2010.
