Foreigners Kidnapped And Extorted By Police

The police officers will investigate claims that some police officers were responsible for kidnapping and extorting money from foreigners.

BANGKOK – Recently- [Pattaya Daily News] according to the case that Mr.Yothin Wansuwan-lawyer- was authorised by Mr.Kung Tae Jong from South Korea to meet Pol.Lt.Paitoon Joysakoo-inspector- in order to help Mr.Kung’s friends who were kidnapped and told to pay 2 million baht. Initially investigations found that the police were involved the incident.

 

On 11 January, Pol.Maj.Gen.Chaowalit Prasobsilp-commander- acknowledge the incident from the media but he couldn’t reveal the details because his officers were investigating the claims, which, if proven then the officers involved will be arrested.

 

At 19.00 pm South Korea embassy had dispatched the order to inspect Mr.Kung’s room. When the police officers and soldiers inspected they just found documents relating to the room along with clothes, they did not find Mr.Kung. It’s expected that he escaped because he was afraid about the incident.

 

The reporters also revealed that the head of the gang was the deputy police inspector and 10 of his men, who had extorted money from foreigners. They had done about 10 times and extorted approximately 2 million baht each time. Latest incident was in the middle of December 2014, when the gang kidnapped a victim to safe house to extort the money for 2 million baht. They had questioned the victim for 9 hours and the victim paid them 400,000 baht. They repeated this again on the 9th January.​
