PATTAYA-August 18, 2012[Pattaya Daily News]; at 7:30 a.m., a report of a suicide was received by Pol. Lt. Col. Attaros Krongrat, investigation officer, Pattaya police station, Dongtarn Curve sub-branch, Chonburi province.

He rushed to the scene along with a rescue officer of the Sawangboribul Pattaya foundation. They arrived at a house at 315/239 Royal Park village Moo 12 Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

Police found the body of Mr. Noel O’Brien, age 58, from Ireland, wearing a blue shirt and brown shorts. He had tied a rope around his neck that was attached to the iron cage of the back door until he died.

There were no signs of injuries from any physical assault. Police estimated Mr. Noel had been dead for two hours.

Near his body, his wife Mrs. Meena was crying profusely while neighbors consoled her. During questioning, Mrs. Meena told police that before the incident, she had taken her child to school. When she returned home, she found her husband had hung himself.

Mrs. Meena had no idea why her husband killed himself. She said they had not argued or had any real problems. But she said her husband liked to drink liquor, which was starting to adversely affect his health.

However, Mr. Noel had promised her on the recent Mother’s Day August 12 that he would quit drinking. But she doubted if that was reason enough for him to commit suicide.

After talking to his wife, police initially assumed that Mr. Noel had a secret personal problem that he didn’t dare tell his wife about. So he waited until his wife took their child to school before committing suicide.

The police made notes of the incident and investigated his wife in detail, before sending the corpse to perform an autopsy to find the exact cause of death. After the autopsy, his body will be returned to his wife to perform religious rites.
