One of the films which is still under production is “Big Hit in Bangkok”, a remake of Bangkok Dangerous by Oxide and Danny Pang. The movie stars a famous Hollywood actor Nicholas Cage and well-known Thai actors Chakrit Yamnam and Dom Haetrakoon, with an estimated production cost of 220 million baht.

As for film shooting from Asia, this year has shown a return of Hong Kong film production after a few years of decline due to alternative locations in China. Two films have recently finished their production. One is “Secret Action” starring 3 Hong Kong superstars; Cheng Yee Kim (The Storm Rider), Fu Lek, Fung Stephen Gin and directed by Yuan Sai Sang.

Another is “Protégé”, starred by Andy Lau and filmed partly in Chiang Rai. Although the costs of producing these films were only 500,000 baht to about 3 million baht, the businesses of local companies working with Hong Kong film producers are clearly on the rise.

India is the major source of foreign film production from South Asia with more than 40 shootings each year. Most films are music videos choosing panoramic views along beautiful beaches and islands such as Koh Poda, Maya Beach, Phi Phi Islands in Krabi Province. The estimated production cost for each Indian film is about 5 million baht with the total income for the whole year over 60 million baht.

Apart from the production of feature films by private companies, the French Government has also sponsored a 15 million baht French film production named “Cargo”. The film was shot in cargo boats along the Chao Phaya River and Koh Sichung island in Chonburi province.

Foreign film shootings in Thailand this year varied both in terms of stories and locations; Bangkok, Krabi, Phang-nga, Phuket, Kanchanaburi, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Ratchaburi and Prachuab Kirikhan. The estimated cost of all productions amounts to more than 500 million baht.
