Fishing Forced to Stop Fishing

Officials have been to inspect a lot of fishing boats after they hadn’t been out fishing because they were afraid they would be arrested due to the new strict rules set by the government.

SATTAHIP – July 1,2015 [PattayaDailyNews]; at 11.30 am Mr.Parinya Photiosat-Chief district of Sattahip- ordered Mr.Chawat Thepthap-Chief of stabilization- and village leaders to inspect fishing operators who had reported to Mr.Konsan Aekachai- governor of Chonburi- about their troubles. About 300 boats hadn’t set sail to fish for a while because these fishing operators were afraid of being arrested by officials due to the strict rule.

Mr.Pramot Thowsakul-former chief of the village Samaesarn- said that the association of fishing of Samaesarn village was still silent but the association announced to each member that the officials would inspect the fishing boats on July 1st because almost 90 percent of boats had no license. In addition the Thai government had been complained to by the EU that Thai fishing operators performed IUU Fishing. Also some operators tried to notify the officials to make a change on their boats but they couldn’t. As a result, they decided not to fish which has caused a shortage in the domestic market.
