Upon inspecting various well-known entertainment spots in Walking Street, south Pattaya, the officers found that most venues were complying with the law. They also checked the fire exits the building lay out, sprinklers and the fire extinguishers to make sure that if there was an emergency they would work correctly. As for the venues which weren’t up to standard the officers ordered them to improve as soon as possible. Also if Amphur Banglamung officers find any venues that do not have any fire exits they will order the venue to close until the safety standards are met. The inspection was ordered after the big fire at the Santika pub in Ekkamai, Bangkok a few years ago which ripped through the night club killing many Thai’s and foreigners during the new year’s celebration. The club only had one exit and there were no sprinklers so the government has been stepping up its inspections of entertainment spots to make sure they have the required safety standards in place.
