Fire At Pig Farm Kills 650 Pigs

A large fire at a KPK Pig farm ripped through a pigsty killing 650 one month old piglets worth 1,500 THB each. The cause of the fire was due to an electrical short circuit.

RATCHABURI – Janurary 18,2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; Pol.Lt.Capt. Anupong Siritorn, officer of the shift, Tungluang police station, Paktor, revealed at 21.00, on January 17, was notified that, that there was a fire at KPK pig Farm, moo 9 ,TungLuang, Paktor, so he rushed to inspect the scene with the fire department of Tungluang and Shinnaseeha municipality. A total of 4 fire trucks rushed to the scene. It took over an hour to bring the fire under control. The fire killed 650 1 month pigs worth 1,500 THB each.

The farm kept 20 pigsty located approximately 50 meters apart from each other which contained many generations of little pigs and adults. The fire burnt just one pigsty. The building was built from cement and the roof had heat insulator to keep the pigs cool and comfortable. Some witnesses said the fire spread very fast. The police thought it may have been started from an electrical short circuit. The fire damage is estimated approximately 3 million baht which includes the building and pigs.
