Finance Minister Reiterates Readiness to Liaise With Central Bank

BANGKOK, Sept 26 - Newly-appointed Finance Minister Suchart Tadathamrongvej on Friday reaffirmed he could liaise and work together with the Bank of Thailand (BoT) in regard to policy implementation.

Speaking after a ceremony at the spirit shrine at the Finance Ministry on his first day of taking up his duties, he said a top priority he would give upon assuming the post is to improve life for low-income people and go ahead with an implementation of the village fund scheme and a debt moratorium for farmers.

Regarding mounting concerns over a slowdown in the overall economy, he said the ministry already had contingency measures to supervise it and that he would cooperate with his two deputies to work for the sake of the country’s economic stability.

Mr. Suchart reiterated he had never been at loggerheads with the central bank as many concerned and expressed confidence he could liaise and work together well with the BoT.

The minister also revealed he planned to approach former finance and deputy prime minister Veerapong Ramangkul to unoffiicially join a team of economic advisors. (TNA)
