CHIANG MAI – March 18, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 12.15 a.m. Pol.Lt. Withoon Rueangchaidecha (policeman on duty at the Mueang Chiang Mai police station, Chiang Mai Province) was notified that a foreign man was found dead in his rented house no. 101/1 Intharanurak village, Wiang Phing road, Tambon Chang Khlarn, Amphur Mueang, Chiang Mai Province, so he rushed to the scene together with a doctor of the Maharat Nakhon Chiang Mai hospital.

Mr. Mikkola Palette Kalef, aged 61, of Finnish nationality, was confirmed dead by the doctor. His post-mortem examination didn’t find any external foul play. The police realised that the Fin was a diabetic, and understand from locals that he also drank a lot of alcohol. They then assumed that the alcohol had had a large impact on the cause of death. Combined with the hot temperatures, alcohol and diabetes can be a fatal combination, possibly leading to circulatory shock, which can lead to extreme low blood pressure.

The police will continue to try to collect evidence, but at this point the death seems self inflicted.
