Filipinos Dominate in Sangsom Pattaya 9-Ball Invitational

Two-time national Filipino National Open Champion Lee Van “The Slayer” Corteza advanced to the final of the 2010 Sangsom Pattaya 9-Ball Invitational Pool Competition at the Royal Garden Plaza in Pattaya on Sunday.

Pattaya, the 3rd of October 2010: The 31-year-old Corteza defeated Liu Hui Chang of Chinese-Taipei, 9-4, to set up an all-Filipino grand final at the popular invitational event.

Corteza, advancing with back-to-back victories on Saturday faced Ronnie “Volcano” Alcano on Sunday for the title for the title after his defeat of another Filipino Dennis “Robocop” Orcollo in the other semi. Corteza battled hard against an on-fire Alcano, leveling the match at 7-7 before ultimately losing out 11-7 to the “Volcano”.

Alcano was awarded the Bt300,000 first prize cheque and winners trophy visiting delgates and sponsor representatives, while his illustrious but defeated opponent Corteza was awarded Bt50,000 for his runner-up finish.

Last Friday, Corteza crushed Kevin Fortt of Great Britain (9-1) in the Last 32, Alcano waylaid Somkuan Tianponkrang of Thailand (9-5).

Both competitors were invited to compete at this years event by Captain Prajit Phichaisornlatat, chairman of the events sponsor and organizer ‘Q Sport Bangkok Association.’
