United States, the 23rd of August 2010: News of the divorce spread on Monday as Tiger, reputed to be the worlds wealthiest sports star, and his former glamour model Swedish wife Elin Nordegren appeared before the Bay County Circuit Court in Florida.

Ending months of speculation and anticipation following revelations of Tiger’s infidelities and the resultant public scrutiny that eventuated, the once happy couple finally revealed the annulment of their marriage to the world.

In a joint press release, the pair made no mention of any monetary involvement in the settlement, but stated that the divorce judgement provided for shared parenting of their two children, while they asked for privacy.

Previous media analysis on the couples anticipated divorce speculated that the glamorous, now ‘Miss’ Nordegren, could benefit to the turn of US$750 million from the eventual annulment of her marriage to Tiger.

A joint statement posted on Tiger’s website explained, “We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future. While we are no longer married, we are the parents of two wonderful children and their happiness has been, and will always be, of paramount importance to both of us. The weeks and months ahead will not be easy for them as we adjust to a new family situation, which is why our privacy must be a principal concern.”

Tiger, a 14-time Major Champion, only returned to the game, which has lifted him to iconic status not only in golf but also on the world sporting stage, in April with results not forthcoming in his bid to rebuild his tarnished image.

Tiger had his worst finish on the US PGA Tour circuit at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational earlier this month, stringing together four over-par rounds to finish near the bottom of the field.
