Festive Ceremony Honors Thai Royalty

Several project honoring the King and Queen’s philosophy of a sufficient economy as well as conserving resources were announced at a festive ceremony in Sattahip to honor the Qeen for her 80th birthday. Planned events include the planting of rice seedlings on Mother’s Day and harvesting the rice on Father’s Day.

SATTAHIP – August 8, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; Mrs. Pornjit Hrunrerngrom, chairperson of mariners’ wives association, opened the ceremony to bring flowers to worship and bless the Queen, in front of her picture, for the occasion of her birthday ceremony, when she will be 80-years-old on August 12, 2012.

The project honoring the Queen is the “Transplanting Rice Seedlings on Mother’s Day and Harvest on Father’s Day.” Following the King’s philosophy of a sufficient economy, a New Theory Learning Center is now part of the Soil Study Village (Thoraneesueksa village).

Also welcoming participants were Vice admiral Aphichai Fungladda, director general of the naval education department; and Capt. Niwat Hacharern, commissioner of the new soldier training center in Sattahip,Chonburi, and the commissioner with the the Royal Thai Navy department, together with the Mariners’ wives association, government officers, students from 18 schools and colleges in Sattahip.

The chairman of the mariners’ wives association and everyone who joined the ceremony transplanted the rice seedlings – Jasmine rice, Sang Yod breeding, her majesty the queen’s favorite breed of rice.

The Queen had made a royal speech to conserve and promote the rice, to be the heritage of our country forever. She also spoke of the Thai buffalo as having a cherished place in Thai society.

Planting in this ceremony was done similar to thrown type farm, to promote helping to maintain the farm tradition (long kag), as well as encourage more widespread use of the practice to to follow His Majesty the King’s philosophy of a sufficiency economy. All the crops they had planted on August 8 will be harvested on December 5, Father’s Day.

The chairman of the mariners’ wives association also opened the Thai buffaloes conservation center project, another project to follow the king’s philosophy to honor queen Sirikit, H.M. for her birthday.


The project is meant to conserve Thai buffaloes to follow Her Majesty the Queen’s royal speech. The center was designed to be natural, like a Thai farmer’s path, it will be opened for the public to learn about the true farmer’s path and the buffaloes.

Vice Admiral Aphichai Fungladda, direct general of the naval education department, said that the Royal Thai marines have followed the path of the H.M.King’s philosophy of a sufficiency economy, and have a policy to administrate to the Marines, to help them adapting to improving their daily living and performing government duties.

The New Theory Learning Center, New Soldier Training Center, and the Naval Education Department are now among the most important learning centers of sufficiency economy of the Royal Thai Navy.

Since 2008, there were government officers and the family of the Navy, students and interested people who and came to see and learn continually, and the centers have been respected by many government offices, the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and has been appointed to be the Center of Sufficiency Economy learning center of Sattahip district community.

Presently the Royal Thai Navy has appointed the Naval Education department to directly respond to disseminate and adopt sufficient economy philosophy, so it was the holy occasion to celebrate the king’s and the queen’s birthday to hold the transplanting rice seedlings on Mother’s Day and harvest on Father’s Day activity every year to honor the King and the Queen and promote rice, the main dish of Thai people, and to promote and recognize the King and Queen’s kindness to the youths and all people of Thailand.
