Ferry Searched After Disposing Waste To The Ocean

A ferry was ordered to be investigated and searched after it disposed waste to diving areas in Surat Thani province.

SURAT THANI – June 9,2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; Police ordered a team to investigate a ferry that was disposing waste to the Gulf of Thailand, a Russian tourist was able to capture a video evidence of the ship disposing the waste. It’s believed that the ferry was responsible for the oil slicks in the sea. The manager of “Racha Ferry” denied all accusations regarding the dispose of waste.

Mr. Wiwat Chitchertwong, the Principal of the Marine Department office revealed further movements regarding the case. He said that a team was sent out to investigate the ship “Racha 2” that was suspected to dispose waste or oil. Racha 2 was being repaired in Koh Samui, making the MD (Marine Department) officers travel to Koh Samui to conduct the investigations. The MD officers searched the whole ferry that was being repaired at the Don Sak pier.

Mr. Ramluek Assawin, a diving tour operator and various other island and sea preservation groups said that the dispose of waste is extremely damaging tourism and wild life in the Koh Samui and Koh Pangan island areas. They said that MD must capture and stop everyone that is still disposing waste to the Gulf of Thailand.
