Female Noodle Vendor Arrested For Hosting Illegal Lottery

Sattahip sheriff has arrested a female noodle vendor who was the host of illegal lottery at her noodle shop. She confessed to the allegations and told police she had been doing it for over a year.

SATTAHIP – March 16, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 6.00 a.m. Mr. Phawat Lertmookda (Sattahip sheriff, Chonburi province) together with Mr. Chawat Thepthap (Deputy District Chief of Stability Division) mobilized forces of special operations and Territorial Defense Volunteers to arrest a Mrs. Amphornnit Khong-suea or Jeh Nim, aged 42, who was the owner of noodle shop and the host of illegal lottery. She was arrested with a list of illegal gamblers on 8 pieces of paper, totalling over 20,000 THB and the banknotes used to lure a purchase of 200 THB at her noodle shop which was located at the entrance to Uea Arthorn Na Jomtien village, Moo 2 Tambon Na Jomtien, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province.

Mr. Phawat Lertmookda (Sattahip sheriff) revealed that after he was commanded by Mr. Khomsan Aekkachai (Chonburi Provincial Governor) that people had complained on a website of Chonburi Provincial Governor’s direct line that the owner of a noodle shop called Ka Thi Sod Ros Ded was selling illegal lottery to the local people who lived in Uea Arthorn village. Mr. Chawat Thepthap (Deputy District Chief of Stability Division) then mobilised forces to purchase illegal lottery from the female noodle shop vendor by letting an undercover agent go there to eat noodles. The undercover agent watched while the vendor was preparing the lists of illegal lottery on the table and then asked if he could buy lottery numbers 45 and 46 for 200 THB. Once the transaction was completed the undercover agent arrested her with the exhibits.

Initially, Mrs. Amphornnit (the defendant) confessed that she was the host of an illegal lottery for over 1 year. She would send the lottery lists of the gamblers to a bigger host and she would get 30% for the overall amount money gambled by her customers. Mrs. Amphornnit also told the officers that the big host lived in building no. 87 of Uea Arthorn Na Jomtien village, but after he was informed of Mrs. Amphornnit arrest he fled the building. Therefore, the officers detained Mrs. Amphornnit together with exhibits to be sent to the investigation officer of Na Jomtien officer’s station in order to prosecute her further according to the Thai law.
