Fellow British Heavyweight Labels Haye a Coward

Audley Harrison, current European heavyweight champion, has recently vacated his title in order to open the door for a world title fight with WBA champion countryman David Haye, who he explained was “running away” from bout with the world champion Klitschko brothers.

United Kingdom, the 9th of June 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: Harrison, the 2000 Olympic champion, has had a turbulent career, but at the ripe age of 38 has been thrust back into the limelight after his impressive win against Michael Sprott to claim the European Title in April.

Still recovering from a damaged pectoral muscle, which forced him to fight one-handed for the majority of his fight with Sprott, has laid down the challenge to fellow Londoner David Haye whilst also stating that he would willingly take-on either of the two Klitschko brothers.

“I’m told by my promoters that both David Haye and the Klitschko brothers have expressed an interest in facing me when I return after rehab. If it’s either Klitschko brother, the task will be hard, but that’s how I want it. I respect both brothers as they are effective at what they do but both can be beat,” stated Harrison.

The recovering champ was less kind in his appraisal of Haye, “As I said before David Haye is a false prophet, one punch on that chin and it will shatter like glass. If I was him, I’d keep running from the Klitschko’s and keep beating up on shop-worn American heavyweights.”

Harrison’s management revealed that they were currently in talks with both the Klitschko and Haye camps in regards to a World Title fight, hopefully later this year. His manager Eddie Hearn has insisted at this time, recovering from injury and the popularity ratings, a bout with Haye is considered to be the preference.

“Audley’s last two appearances in the UK have attracted record viewing figures, so couple that with David Haye’s popularity and this is the biggest fight the UK has ever seen,” stated Hearn.
