Melbourne, the 31st of January [Pattaya Daily News]: Roger Federer’s Australian Open win, puts the all-time great on 16 Grand Slam wins entering his 268th week of being world number one. After such a dominating presence throughout this Australian Open campaign it is hard to believe that he will relinquish his iron grip on the top spot anytime soon.

Repelling Scotsman Andy Murray’s bid to become the first British Grands Slam winner since Fred Perry, 74 years ago, Federer established himself further in the hearts of Aussie fans winning his forth Australian Open title.

After winning in three sets 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (13/11) the 28-year-old champion stated: “I’m on an incredible trip and I’ll see where it ends. I’m being pushed along by the new generation and they have made me a better player.”

Murray on the other hand was entering only his second Grand Slam final carrying with him the hopes of the British nation. In his only other Grand Slam final appearance he also faced the untouchable Roger Federer in the 2008 US Open.
