Fatal High-Speed Shootout Erupts in South Pattaya

One young man has been killed and another seriously injured after a high-speed shootout erupted in South Pattaya on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred after an altercation between three Thai men turned violent with the ensuing car and motorbike chase resulting in a fatality.

Pattaya, the 12th of May 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 5:00am on Wednesday, police Lieutenant Colonel Samran Kamwattana (Pattaya Police Investigator) was notified of a serious motorbike accident in front of the Excite nightclub on Pattaya’s 3rd Road. With gunshots reportedly heard and a second man severely injured in the incident a team of police and Sawang Boriboon Foundation rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene immediately.

Arriving at the scene, officers discovered a large crowd had gathered around the dead body of Mr. Niwat Panprasong [23]. Mr. Panprasong was lying on the road beside his black Honda Wave motorbike having suffered a gunshot to the right temporal lob and compressed ribcage, the result of being run over by a heavy vehicle. Another victim Mr. Niphon Khansong [21] was also found at the scene in a critical condition, rescue personnel immediately transported him to the Pattaya Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Investigations revealed that the deceased, Mr. Panprasong, was in possession of a .38 calibre pistol, whilst another .38 calibre Smith & Wesson was discovered nearby. Various witnesses to the incident stated that a third person was involved in the incident who had fled the scene in a bronze Isuzu D-Max pickup. The preceding search found the offender in Soi Sophon Cable, approximately 1 kilometer from the scene. Police arrested the suspect, Mr. Seksan Sakda [24] whilst his pickup, with bullet hole in the rear driver’s side window and a severely damaged front-end, was confiscated for further analysis.

Various witnesses to the incident were interview by police with Miss Jin (alias) [32] stating that she heard 3-4 gunshots before two motorbikes travelling at high-speed went past the restaurant she was seated at followed by the aforementioned bronze pickup. Another witness, Mr. Boy (alias) [24], a friend of the deceased stated that he had been drinking with both Mr. Panprasong and Mr. Khansong at the Sea Bar pub on Pattaya 3rd Road until shortly prior to the incident. The pair allegedly left the pub stating that they had to “take care of some business” before Mr. Boy later heard of their subsequent death and injury.

At present, police Colonel Nunthawut Suwanla-ong stated that investigations into the incident were ongoing and that the deceased’s body had been sent for autopsy to determine the cause of death. Col. Suwanla-ong revealed that interrogations of the offender will be conducted in order to find out the circumstances behind the fatal incident.
