In this feature we attempt to uncover what possessed Mr. Bloch to commit such a violent act.  German bar owner Mr. Peter Alfons Schroth was stabbed 7 times by a fellow countryman and supposed friend, Mr. Timo Bloch. Mr. Bloch was under the influence of an illegal drug and had subsequently worked himself into a manic rage following an argument with Mr. Schroth. The following is an overview of the interviews that PDN have managed to obtain in regards to the events.

Eye Witness Account

Mr. X (name withheld on request) has been a friend of both the victim Mr. Schroth and the suspect Mr. Bloch for several years, regularly coming to Pattaya and boarding upstairs in the “Kanya Romantic Garden Restaurant.” PDN managed to obtain an exclusive interview with Mr. X the morning after the murder occurred; here is his statement of events.

Mr. X explained to PDN that he had known Mr. Bloch for 2 years although they had never really been close friends. Mr. X revealed that he had only recently returned to Pattaya and was shocked to see Mr. Bloch’s significant weight loss, which he believed was a result of constant drug abuse. He had seen Mr. Bloch regularly using the internet facilities available inside the “Kanya Restaurant” over the past month, explaining that he had also witnessed Mr. Schroth and Mr. Bloch arguing on several occasions. He did not know what they were arguing about but explained that it never went any further than a verbal dispute.

Mr. X has admitted to having had a drink with the murderer Mr Bloch earlier in the afternoon, on the day of the murder. He informed PDN that there had been no conversation regarding Mr Schroth or a planned confrontation. Also stating that when he and Mr. Bloch departed company he did not appear drunk or on drugs. When questioning Mr. X in regards to the murder of Mr. Schroth he explained that he and another man Mr. Z had witnessed an argument between the murderer and Mr Schroth but did not understand what it had been about. He stated that both he and Mr. Z (the other witness) approached the pair with the intent on calming the situation, however; it was at that point that Mr. Bloch produced two knives and violently announced, “who wants to be the first to die?” Mr. X said that he was the first to be approached by Mr. Bloch at which point he retreated out of harms way, whilst Mr. Z picked up a wooden log from the garden to use in self defence if Mr Bloch decided to attack him.Mr. X then stated that Mr Schroth managed to successfully disarm one knife from Mr. Bloch’s grasp however he was subsequently stabbed 7 times by Mr. Bloch using the other knife.

Mr. X then informed PDN that he fled the scene to the bar across the road, stating that he fearing for his own safety, at which point Mr. Bloch escaped. Before he was able to escape the scene he was almost knocked off his motorbike by a passing local who responded to the cries for assistance coming from the various staff of the Kanya Restaurant. The murder weapon and his helmet were left behind in his rush to flee the scene.

Murderers Confession

On the morning of the 4th of December at approximately 11:30am after the re-enactment of events was complete, PDN staff went to the police station to interview the murderer. On arrival Mr. Bloch was seen to be sitting on the floor of his cell having had nothing to eat or drink since his arrest at 11:30pm the previous night.

On approaching Mr. Bloch’s cell it was a surprising to see that he did not appear to be traumatised or distressed in anyway over the previous night’s events, or for that matter his current predicament. In return for an interview and as a show of good faith PDN purchased for Mr. Bloch some food, water and a packet of cigarettes.

The following is a dialogue of the interview that our PDN reporter conducted with Mr. Bloch;

PDN Reporter: What is the reason behind what you have last night?
Mr. Bloch: It was fate, you cannot control fate. I am not scared of people I only worry about fate. I had taken one Yabba tablet 10 minutes before I went to see Peter and do not understand why I killed him, I was not myself. It was the drug.

PDN Reporter: We understand that you had been friends with Mr. Schroth, how long had you known him?
Mr. Bloch: I have known him for around 3 years and recently designed and built a website for him.

PDN Reporter: I have heard that you had been receiving help and support or money from Mr. Schroth, is that correct?
Mr. Bloch: No, no I did not receive money from him. He owes me money for the website that is why I went to see him. He owes many people money. I needed the money so that I could go to Koh Larn on Saturday. I finished building the website before the Saturday so that I could get the money to go to Koh Larn.

PDN Reporter: Did you plan the attack on Mr. Schroth?
Mr. Bloch: No I did not plan, but I knew before I went there that the result of asking for his money would be an argument as it had happened many times before.

PDN Reporter: So why did you take the knives in if you did not intend to murder someone?
Mr. Bloch: I always carry knives around with me for self-defence. I did not plan to murder Peter it must have been the drug, all the drug. I got so angry when he refused to pay me and told me not to go to Koh Larn, so I stabbed him several times because of the drugs.

PDN Reporter: How long have you been using drugs?
Mr. Bloch: I have been taking Yabba for 1 year, but I can control the drug. Last night I could not control it. I was not myself. I don’t know who I was!

PDN Reporter: Do you have a lawyer? Have you contacted the German Embassy?
Mr. Bloch: No I have no lawyer and have not talked to the embassy.

PDN Reporter: Have you spoken to your parents?
Mr. Bloch: Yes, I contacted my mother a few days ago.

PDN Reporter: But you have not talked to them since last night?
Mr. Bloch: No I have not

PDN Reporter: You have got yourself into a very bad situation seemingly because of drugs is there anything you would like to say in regards to drugs, that may help others avoid a similar situation?
Mr Bloch: I think the best drug is “Ganja,” the others make you feel good but can make you crazy and they are not good. (Interview Finishes)

Mr Bloch will now remain in his cell at the police station until his court day arrives and he is sentenced. As the murder looks increasingly like it was pre-meditated, Mr. Bloch is looking at a very lengthy stay in a Thai prison with little hope of being deported back to Germany if he does not organise for a solicitor to represent him or contact the German Embassy.

NOTE: We have provided you (reader) with a these interviews in an attempt to shed some light on this confusing murder. By providing you with these exclusive interviews we are in no way insinuating that either sequence of events is accurate or correct we merely wish to provide you – our readers – with more information surrounding the fatal confrontation that occurred on the 3rd of December.
