CHONBURI – August 3, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; the police of Mueang Chonburi police station were notified by some vendors in Sri Pha Lo Thai market fair which was opposite to Sri Pathum University, Chonburi campus, that fake 1,000 THB banknotes had been used to buy goods in the market so they rushed to the scene.

When they arrived at scene there were over 10 vendors who gave the fake 1,000 THB banknotes to the police. Upon inspecting the banknotes which were 1,000 THB bills they were all in new condition and they all had the same serial number 2 D 7874400. They were very good counterfeit copies and if you didn’t inspect them in very close detail you couldn’t tell if they were fake or not.

Mr. Somsak Angkhanawin, aged 62, who sells pork revealed that at approximately 4.00 p.m. while he was selling pork as usual he found it very unusual that there were about 5-6 customers who came to buy his pork and had bought pork 2-3 kilograms each and every one paid with 1,000 THB note. Mr. Somsak said that he could remember the appearance of the first customer as she was a good looking woman and dressed nicely and she also had a young child with her.

Mr. Philawat Srithai, aged 22, who sells boiled chicken, said that while he was towards a fence he looked down and found a wad of new banknotes on the floor and all the serial numbers were the same of 2 D 7874400. He then counted them and there was 100,000 THB so he and his friends decided to burn them and had burnt around 70,000 THB before the police arrived. Mr. Philawat submitted the rest of fake banknotes to the police for inspection which the officers assumed the culprits might of saw the police so they discarded them before fleeing the scene and fled the scene.

However, the police assumed that all fake banknotes were copied on the same machine due to them all having the same serial number. The officers had known that the fake 1,000 THB banknotes would be sold for 200 THB each and the fake 500 THB banknotes would be sold for 100 THB each therefore the police would like to warn all vendors to check the banknotes carefully every time before taking the customers’ cash.
