SATTAHIP – February 13, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 9:30 a.m., media reporters were shown footage from a CCTV by a small business owner that showed her being a victim of extortion by four men.

The victim was identified as Ms. Nongnuch Sukkhakorn, age 42, the owner of Today Coffee, a coffee shop branch at the Kasemphol intersection; and the owner of the net factory Phlutaluang Recycle Co., Ltd., address 117/79 Moo 4 Tambon Phlutaluang, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province.

She had brought the footage from the CCTV to complain to the mass media that there were 4-5 men claiming to be Pattaya government officers who were demanding bribes.

The men had come in to drink coffee, and then called all 12 foreign workers that were working in the net factory to come out from the factory and stay together outside. She and her very old husband were frightened so much, and asked the men why are they arresting the foreign workers.

The group of men then claimed that they are illegal foreign workers. They said Ms. Nongnuch had to pay for 1,500 THB for each foreign worker, and they will bring the money to their boss. Ms. Nongnuch was afraid of being arrested, so she agreed to pay them money, but she negotiated to reduce the bribe to only 5,000 THB per month.

So on every 7th day of every month, the men would come to collect their 5,000 THB, and paid for the coffee that they drank that cost 200 THB, and walked out from the shop. On February 7, 2013 the men came to collect money at their regular appointment, but Ms. Nongnuch had negotiated to pay only 3,000 THB.

But now Ms. Nongnuch is informing the media to reveal to society her situation. Because it was not justice for her, and she does not want other business owners to become the victims of thieves lurking as government officers. She would like to ask the police to assist to arrest the extortionists, and get rid of all of them from society in order for the people to be safe with their lives and properties.
