A number of Puea Thai party members of parliament and members of the anti-government United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) joined the event at the restaurant.

Thousands of admirers of the ex-premier gathered at temples across the country to perform merit making ceremonies in their celebration of Thaksin’s 60th birthday Sunday morning and to ward off his bad luck.

Mr. Thaksin’s younger sister Yaowapa Wongsawat and her husband Somchai Wongsawat, former prime minister, led opposition politicians and members of the UDD in performing Buddhist religious rites at Kaewfah temple in suburban Nonthaburi.

Mr. Thaksin later telephoned the temple to address and thank his supporters, who saw his tape singing a song I Will Come Back  that was written for him. The ousted premier said he hopes to be able to return home in the future.

At Uthaitharam temple in Bangkok, taxi drivers gathered to hold a birthday event for Mr. Thaskin despite an afternoon rain. The group’s leaders took turn to address the birthday’s wishes for Mr. Thaksin and to attack the government’s performance on the stage.

In Chiang Mai, his hometown, a birthday party will be held at the Varorot Grand Palace Hotel. Among all evening’s activities are collecting 2,492 cakes and making 2,492 birthday cards for Mr. Thaksin. The year 2,492 of the Buddhist Era (B.E.) is Mr. Thaksin’s birth year.
