Elephant Foundation President Arrested In Pattaya

A man who pretended to collect money for the elephant foundation was arrested by police. He told police that he collected the money for his own benefit which was around 20,000 baht a day.

PATTAYA – December 1,2014 [Pattaya Daily News] at 02.00 am Pol.Lt.Col.Weerawut Meelai-inspector of Pattaya police station- was notified that a group of people who pretended be representatives from the elephant foundation had collected money from around various entertainment venues. After notification the police went to inspect.

 

At the scene the officials found 3 people with a donation box. They were identified as Mr.Thapanat Phuraya the 31 year old president of the foundation, Ms.Utaiwan Prakham aged 37 and another girl. They were then taken to Pattaya police station.

Upon questioning Mr.Thapanat he confessed that he was collecting money for his own benefit. He told the victims in the venues that he would use the money to help the elephants t in Kanchanaburi province. Also he hired 2 people to help him collect the money. They would collect about 20,000 baht a day.

 

The police officers opened the donation box where they found 10,900 baht which they gave to the elephant village in Pattaya. However the police officers prosecuted him according to Thai law.
