Elderly Russian Steals Cheese From Supermarket

An eldery Russian man stole a box of cheese from Best Supermarket department store north Pattaya. He was observed stealing by staff who watched him on the CCTV. He was then restrained by staff but he resisted and yelled loudly. The police then arrived, arrested him and took him to the police station.

PATTAYA – November 12,2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; At 11.50 p.m. Pol. Lt. Col. Kiettisak Sathong-oy (Deputy Superintendent of Pattaya city police station, Chonburi province) was notified by the staff of Best Supermarket department store which is located by the Dolphin traffic island, north Pattaya, Moo 6 Tambon Na Kleua, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province that they had apprehended a foreign man that had been caught stealing. Pol. Capt. Nopphadol Raksawong (Deputy Inspector) went to arrest the suspect.

He was identified as Mr. Frank Joseph Janalik, aged 74, from Russia who was an ex-foreman of an engineering oil boring project in the U.S.A. The police searched his pants’ pocket and found the stolen exhibit 1 box of cheese brand “Dodoni” price of 210 THB. Mrs. Siriporn Kulsyworthy, aged 65 who is the manager of Best Supermarket told police that Mr. Frank always comes into buy goods from the department store but lately after she observed the CCTV she found that he had stealing. But today Mr. Frank came into the department store again so she asked the security guards to watch him and they also found that the Russian man was stealing. Mr. Siriporn also said that when Mr. Frank made the payment for some goods she then asked staff to check the goods again but Mr. Frank resisted and walked away quickly. The security guards then detained him and notified the police.

Initially, Mr. Frank denied strongly all accusation and told the police that he had lived in Thailand for 15 years and he has never stole anybody’s property and he also accused that the department store’s staff of putting the cheese into his pocket. The police didn’t believe him and took him to the police station to be prosecuted according to Thai law.
