Dust Pollution From Tunnel Construction

Pattaya people have complained about the amount of dust and sand which is causing traffic accidents and air pollution during the tunnel construction.

PATTAYA – Recently [PattayaDailyNews]; According to the case that Mr.Thongsuk Namna aged 36 had suffered a fatal road accident when his motorbike was involved with another bike before sliding under a tour bus of Hong Thong Transport co.,Ltd. The incident happened on 10th May at 20.00 pm.


Initially local people said that the cause of incident was the amount of dust on the road which caused him to lose control.


On 11th May, Pattaya reporters had inspected the scene and found about 10 workers of Bangsaen Mahanakhon co.,Ltd were cleaning the road.


Upon questioning Ms.Lamyai Warilung aged 42 who was leader she said that she was in charge of 26 workers to clean the road around the construction area and some places had a lot of sand which needed to be washed away by a water truck.

Mr.Nattapong Dokea aged 20 who is a motorcycle taxi rider said that the dust had been a problem since construction had begun. He also said that many riders had been involved in accident due to the sand on the road which was very dangerous under breaking.


Mr.Manot Chanchua aged 56 who is a grocery owner said that a couple of workers clean the road each day and they didn’t sweep the sand off the road but cleaned the sand which dropped off the trucks. The sand was being blown into his shop everyday so he has now temporarily closed it because his wife has suffered respiratory problems due to the dust. He has complained to Pattaya officials but nothing had been done.


Later the reporters called Mr.Chawalit Jariyayanyong- director of the traffic and transportation division of Pattaya- who was in charge of the project and he just said that it was the responsibility of the contractor to clean the road as agreed with Pattaya officials. However, the reporters will have to ask for clarification from the contractor.
