DSI Confiscate Counterfeit Products

DSI confiscate counterfeit products worth over 5 million THB from a well known department store near Pattaya beach.

PATTAYA – May 26, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; At 6.00 p.m., Pol. Lt. Col. Banthoon Chimkra, the specialist of DSI (Department of Special Investigation), with the help of Pol. Capt. Prasit Kwansai (expert officer of DSI), and a group of DSI officers, brought a search warrant from the Pattaya provincial court to inspect the shops at the Pattaya City Walk for counterfeit goods. The store is located on the south side of Pattaya beach, Moo 9 Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

After inspecting all 6 areas of the shops, the police seized any products that violated the intellectual property such as handbags, watches, clothing, etc. Items that were confiscated consisted of replica; Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Levi, Rolex, etc. Over 10,000 items valued at over 5 million THB were confiscated. The police also detained 6 people running the shops to prosecute them further according to the law.

Pol. Lt. Col. Banthoon Chimkra revealed that in this arrest, Mr. Tharit Phengdit, (Director-General of DSI), had ordered his staff to detain the people who are selling the copyrighted products accordingly to the law. After further investigation , the police will send the detainees to be prosecuted according to the law.

Thailand continues to be pressured from other countries to crack down on counterfeit products being sold in the country.
