DSI Clamps Down on Human Trafficking Gangs in Pattaya

DSI (Department of Special Investigation) and other departments targeted human trafficking gangs who used young children to beg for money in Pattaya.

PATTAYA-April 25,2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 17.00 pm. Mrs.Paweena Hongsakul-Minister of Social Development and Human Security Department- was accompanied by Mr Prawit Chaibuadang- chief of Eastern DSI department- Pol.Col.Thammanoon Munkhong- Superintendent of Bang Lamung police station-, Pol.Col.Sutthisak Wanthee- Superintendent of Nong Prue police station and Chonburi immigration department agents to search three houses after they were notified that 1 year and older children had been taken to be beggars in Pattaya tourists attractions such as Walking Street, Pataya beach.

The officers went out and soon found a 5 year old Cambodian girl who begging for money in Pattaya so they gave her some money and asked her for more information. She said she has a Cambodian mother named Lek who makes her to beg around Soi 7-8 Pattaya beach. If she can’t get money she would be punished by thrashing. If she gets money she must give it all to her mom. She said that her mom always spent all the money on alcohol and drugs. The police found out that she had a rented room at millions house so they asked to search the house.

This Human Trafficking Gang use Thais and Cambodians and the gang had sent about 20-30 Cambodian children and disability people to Mr.Sutthi Sabuythae aged 40 and Ms.Vi or Mali aged 42 to conceal them in a house in Paradise Hill villages. There were almost ten teenagers in the house. Mr.Sutthi claimed that he wasn’t house owner, he just looked after the house. Ms Vi also claimed that she just visited her friends in the house. Mr Briphon Puntrakul aged 17 who was in the house claimed that he rented a room behind the house for 3,000 baht per month. However the police are still suspicious of because they had followed them for a month.

They also went to search a rented room on Khao Noi road where they found a woman with her child inside. She didn’t reveal anything and claimed that her boyfriend worked in Pattaya. The officers then went to a rented room in Nong Plalai district. The police found no one inside but they found children clothes, bird cage, dolls and a marijuana bong.

Upon inspecting Mrs Kwanruan Sri-a-ram aged 33 who rents a room nearby she revealed that there were almost 10, 1-10 year old children in that room. She only knows that they are bird sellers. She had also notified the rented room owner.

After Mrs Paweena and her group went to Sawangfah temple in Na Klua for the funeral of a one legged man who was part of the gang. At the temple they found 23 of children and several adults. These adults claimed that they are the parents of these children. However the police caught them and transfer them to be investigated in the Eastern DSI office where they will looked after and sent back to their home country so they can’t beg again. In addition human trafficking is serious and unacceptable here in Thailand and Thailand are serious about eliminating this kind of crime.
