Drunk Thai Survives Fiery Car Crash Into Tree

An injured 24-year-old driver was helped from his car by bystanders after his car hit a tree and erupted in flames in Huay Yai. There was a strong smell of liquor on the clothes of the driver, who was rushed to the hospital. Firefighters extinguished the flames, and police will follow up to investigate.

PATTAYA – January 17, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 1 a.m., a report of a driver crashing his car into a tree and causing a fire in the vehicle was received by the rescue unit of Sawangboribultharmmasatharn Pattaya foundation. They rushed to the scene to assist with a fire truck.

The incident occurred at the entrance of the old sugar factory-Chakmak close to the road, at address 331 Tambon Huay Yai, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

At the scene, rescue officers discovered a severely damaged Toyota Vios in flames after it had collided with a tree on the roadside by the forest. Officers sprayed water to stop the fire. The injured driver was sent to Queen Sirikit hospital in Sattahip. He was identified as Mr. Theeraphong Pheungkasem, age 24, the owner of the car.

Local residents told the rescue officers that they saw the car collide with the tree violently and then the vehicle caught fire. They rushed to assist the injured driver from the car, and noted the smell of liquor from his clothes.

After assisting the driver, the residents notified the rescue officers. The police will follow up to investigate the injured driver to find the cause of accident.
