PATTAYA – March 13, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 2 a.m., a report of a man found dead under a tree was received by Pol. Lt. Col. Weerawut Meelai, detective officer of Muang Pattaya police station. He went to check the crime scene with detectives and rescuers from Sawangboriboon Thammasathan foundation, Muang Pattaya.

The victim was found under a tree in the grove wood, soi 6, Phratamnak Rd. south Pattaya, moo12, Nongprue, Banglamung.

The man’s body was found under the olive tree in the grove wood. The victim was identified as Mr. Somchai Khampoosan, 45 years old, from Markkhang, Udon Thani. He was a security guard of Sattahip Navyguard Co. Ltd.

Mr. Somchai was lying on his back, wearing a black T-shirt under a shiny black jacket, and black trousers. His face had been hit by something hard and his nose had been broken, shedding a lot of blood. On his body there were many black-and-blue bruises.

On his right wrist was a yellow wrist band. Officers found a black cap nearby with a security logo on it, as well as a red towel dropped near him. Police kept the items for evidence.

Police checked the crime scene around the condominium building. They saw traces of blood on the ground, like something heavy had been dragged about 20 meters from building to the tree. Officers also found empty bottles of alcohol left in front of the condo.

Police questioned Mr. Poy Jaingam, 63 years old, from Chaiyapoom, a security guard working in the same company as the victim. Mr. Poy said he had been working on his shift at the adjacent  building when the incident occurred.

It began when the patrolling leader, Mr. Somchai Inmarong, 41 years old, went out to check his subordinates. He then discovered Mr. Somchai Khampoosan the guard was asleep, because he got drunk. Mr. Somchai the patrolling leader, who was drunk too, shouted to wake the victim, who got pissed off at being awakened harshly. So they quarreled, and then fought each other.

But Mr. Somchai the subordinate could not fight effectively because he was smaller, and his leader used his feet to trample the victim until he became unconscious. Then the girlfriend of Mr. Somchai the leader came to restrain him and drag him away from the site.

Not more than 10 minutes later, Mr. Somchai the leader returned and hurt the unconscious victim again. He then checked to confirm that his victim had already died. When Mr. Somchai was sure, he grabbed the victim’s arms and dragged him from building to the tree to hide the body. Then he told his girlfriend to bring his motorcycle to him so he could escape.

Pol. Lt. Col. Weerawut Meelai revealed that from their initial investigation, it seemed that the patrolling leader became enraged at finding his subordinate asleep, so he woke him up. But the drunk victim got angry and told his drunk boss off, which made the boss furious, so he beat the victim to death.

The victim Mr. Somchai shares the same surname as the Navy commander who is the owner of the company, and also the same surname as the security leader who beat him to death. Police will investigate if they might be related, after officers track down and arrest Mr. Somchai the suspect.
