PATTAYA – March 21, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 3:30 a.m., a police inspector reported that a gang of motorbikers had fired a gun in front of a pub at a crowd of people that included police officers. The incident occurred in front of the Drink Pattaya pub, third Pattaya road, Moo 10 Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung.

The report was received by Pol. Lt. Phootthaphong Cheunchom, investigation officer on duty, Pattaya police station, Chonburi province. He was notified of the shooting by Pol. Lt. Thanongsak Inphadoong, Deputy Inspector, Pattaya police station.

Deputy Inspector Pol. Lt. Thanongsak was responding to an earlier report of a fight at the pub. He was with several inspector police officers and the volunteer police, totaling 5 officers, when the shooting occurred.

Everyone scattered when the random shooting erupted, and only one bystander was injured. Two vehicles were also hit by bullets, including a police pickup truck. The injured victim was identified as Mr. Warinthorn Chutiphanmaneerat, age 20. He was shot in his right arm and was sent to Bangkok-Pattaya hospital.

One of the vehicles hit by gunfire was the pickup truck of Pattaya police station, which was hit in the rear end by a bullet. The other damaged vehicle was a white Toyota Vigo belonging to a customer. The front of the vehicle was hit by bullets and got damaged.

Pol. Lt. Thanongsak Inphadoong, Deputy Inspector, said that before the shooting, he had brought 5 police officers to investigate a report of club patrons assaulting the pub security guard.

At that time, it looked like the incident was over, and the suspects had already fled the scene. So Pol. Lt. Thanongsak was making the phone call to report to the superior officers in the pickup truck, while the other four officers were inspecting the front of the pub. But suddenly a big group of teenagers driving 6 to 7 motorbikes parked at the entrance to the pub.

Then a drunk man from the gang who was wearing jeans and a black jacket and a helmet waved a gun around. He shouted that he was not afraid of police, and then quickly fired his gun 4 times.

The police officers and tourists ran away chaotically to hide from the bullets. The first bullet hit the victim Mr. Warinthorn in his right arm. The other 3 bullets hit the police pickup truck and a customer’s parked car. After making trouble, the group of young men then drove their motorbikes to escape quickly on third Pattaya road.

After the shooting, the police officers inspected the cars in the parking lot of Nua Pub, and found a black Honda City, license number KOR KHOR-7224 Prajeenburi, which was parked with no sign of the car owner.

Officers searched the car and found a .38 caliber gun and a 9 mm. gun, along with 16 bullets. The vehicle’s documents indicated the owner of the car as Pol. L/C Chaicharn Boonsawat. The police seized the car to inspect whether the car owner was related to this incident or not.

The original cause of the trouble began earlier that night. The group of troublemakers numbered about 7 to 8 people, who had been drinking in the pub. Then they had a confrontation with another group of customers who were with the shooting victim Mr. Warinthorn.

The confrontation occurred when people from the two groups walked to bump into each other in the pub. So the security guard of the pub came to separate them. He ejected the group of the troublemakers after making them pay for the bill, and they left the pub.

But one man in the ejected group got angry, so he retrieved a gun from his car, and used the gun to slap the face of the guard until the guard got injured, and then he drove away in his car to escape.

So the guard notified the police to inspect the scene. The police arrived, and not more than 20 minutes after the assault on the guard, the group of troublemakers returned on motorbikes, to fire the gun at the people and police officers standing in front of the pub.

The police commander commented that this shooting incident was very aggressive and troublesome, because there were police officers at the scene working on their duty to investigate the incident. If the police cannot arrest this gang of troublemakers to be punished, it may cause the people to be scared in their daily life.
