A police undercover team was sent to Tawan Laundry, located at a three storey shop house, in Naklua at 1pm, on April 5, ostensibly to buy amphetamines (Yah Bah) from Mrs. Romya Sukkasem (45). Simultaneously, police threw a cordon around the premises and, at a signal from those within, entered to catch Mrs. Romya red-handed with 20 Yah Bah tablets in her hand. At this juncture, Mrs. Romya fainted from shock, forcing Sawang Boriboon Rescue to administer first aid.

Police further searching on the 3rd floor and were surprised to find Ms “A”, (pseudonym) (19) undergoing an illegal abortion. The teenager was lying drowsily on the bed with evidence of many abortion tools on the stainlesssteel tray beside her. Her husband, Mr.”GO”, (pseudonym) (20) was rendering support. Police rushed Ms.”A” to Banglamung Hospital for examination.

Pattaya Police detained Mrs. Romya, who stated that she had been renting the building for more than 3 years, running a laundry shop. Lately, business had fallen off, so she had augmented her income by dealing Yah Bah and, for more than one year, had also operated an illegal abortion clinic, charging Bt25,000 a time

Pol.Lt.Col. Chaidit Panyamuensakulphong, from Panusnikom Station, Chonburi revealed that the arrest was in accordance with the government policy to suppress drug dealing. Mrs. Romya had been suspected of supplying teenagers around Pattaya area with Yah Bah and they had also been fortunate to uncover her illegal abortion operation. Evidence will be presented to the Banglamung Investigator and Mrs. Romya will be processed according to the law.
