Drug-Crazed Brother Makes Man’s Life A Misery Near Pattaya

A Sattahip shopkeeper was shocked to find a badly cut up man, streaming with blood, hiding in the bathroom of her noodle shop, and consequently called the police. It transpired that his drug-crazed brother was the assailant who had inflicted 14 cuts and numerous bruises on the victim. The injured man was sent to hospital, where medics treated his wounds.

Sattahip, 3 April 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: A shopkeeper, Mrs. Wanphen Chuamsuk [55] from a noodle shop in Moo 6, Sattahip, notified police at 8am of a severely injured, blood bespattered  man hiding in her shop’s bathroom and requested help. Police Captain Ekkachai Moonlee (Sattahip Police Investigator) duly sent a team to investigate.

The police arrived at the scene to find Mr. Phonthep Jarernpakdee [39] also living in Moo 6, Sattahip, covered in blood from 14 wounds on his neck, shoulders, shin, chest, and back, as well as bruising to his body, in a highly traumatized state. Sawang Rodjanatham Foundation personnel were called to render first aid, after which he was sent to Queen Sirikit Hospital for further treatment.

Although badly cut up, Phonthep was in no essential danger as none of the cuts had penetrated arteries. Later, Phonthep told police that his assailant was his own brother, Namchok Jarernphakdee [38], who had a severe ya-ba habit, consuming on average 6-10 tablets a day. In the past, Phonthep said that his brother had frequently threatened him with a knife, but prior to the last occasion had never actually inflicted an injury. Recently, however, Phonthep wasn’t sure he could trust the sanity of his brother and became increasingly concerned about the safety of his wife, child and himself so built a fence around his property to keep his mad brother out.

Rather than acting as a deterrent, however, the erection of a fence enraged his brother who, the night before, had climbed over the fence, broke into the house and assaulted Phonthep with a knife, after which he danced on his chest in a severely intoxicated state, before running off, to where Phonthep said he had no idea.

Phonthep said he didn’t want to bring charges against his brother, merely to get him into a rehabilitation centre, to have his drug addiction treated, especially as his brother had no work and had to resort to petty crime to support his ya-ba habit, which was extremely expensive at Bt300 a tablet.
